PAU VC Launches Dr. Seema Bedi’s ‘Musings Unleashed’

In a book debut event at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, unveiled a book titled “Musings Unleashed”, authored by Dr. Seema Bedi. The ceremony, graced by the author’s better-half, Dr. Simrat Sagar, university officers and faculty members of the Department of Botany, celebrated Dr. Bedi’s significant contributions to both academia and the literary world.

During the unveiling, Dr. Gosal expressed profound admiration for Dr. Bedi’s literary journey, describing “Musings Unleashed” as a remarkable compilation that transcends conventional boundaries of thought. He underscored Dr. Bedi’s exceptional empathy and compassion, evident in her genuine concern for the well-being of others. As Dr. Bedi prepares to embark on a new chapter of her life, bidding farewell to her tenure at Punjab Agricultural University, Dr. Gosal expressed anticipation for the literary treasures that she has yet to unveil, emphasizing her role as not just a talented writer, but also a visionary thinker and compassionate human being.

Taking a moment to reflect on Dr. Bedi’s career, Dr. Shammi Kapoor, the Dean of the College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, informed that her journey at the university began in 1990 when she assumed the role of Assistant Professor.  He commended Dr. Bedi’s dedication to scholarly pursuits, noting her active engagement in disseminating knowledge beyond academic circles. He specifically lauded her penchant for insightful write-ups, which have made way to the pages of newspapers, enriching readers with valuable perspectives on various subjects.

Dr. M.S. Sidhu, Former Head of the Department of Economics and Sociology, remarked that Dr. Bedi’s expertise in plant biology, coupled with her profound understanding of societal dynamics, has enabled her to skillfully compile a bouquet of insights. He mentioned that she has adeptly explored the complex intersection of science, creativity, and the human experience. Dr. Sidhu highlighted the diversity of Dr. Bedi’s reflections, ranging from heartfelt discussions on gender equality and women’s empowerment to nostalgic contemplations on the intricacies of contemporary life.

Praising the author’s oeuvre, Dr. Sarabjeet Singh, Professor and Head, Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture, noted Dr. Bedi’s fearless approach in tackling sensitive subjects, urging readers to reexamine assumptions and embrace the depth of human experiences. Dr. Sumedha Bhandari, Associate Professor of English, added her perspective on Dr. Bedi’s work. She observed that her articles, drawn from her extensive experience and keen observations, serve as a mirror reflecting the social, cultural, and scientific issues of our times.

Dr. Seema Bedi, the author herself, provided insights into the book, explaining that “Musings Unleashed” is a collection of her articles published over three decades in newspapers and magazines, including Femina, Women’s Era, Hindustan Times, etc. She expressed her intent to speak her mind through her articles, addressing various social causes and nostalgia with honesty and clarity.
